With estrogen-like activity, bakuchiol inhibits 5-α-reductase production, reducing sebum secretion.
As a fat-soluble antioxidant surpassing vitamin E, it protects sebum from peroxidation and prevents follicular hyperkeratinization.
Bakuchiol effectively inhibits skin pathogens including C. acnes, S. aureus, S. epidermidis, and C. albicans. Combined with salicylic acid, it synergistically enhances C. acnes suppression (1+1>2 effect).
At low concentrations, it inhibits tyrosinase more effectively than arbutin, demonstrating significant skin-lightening efficacy.
It suppresses COX-1/COX-2 activity, iNOS gene expression, and leukotriene B4/thromboxane B2 formation, inhibiting inflammatory mediators through multiple pathways.
